    About Patek Philippe

Patek Philippe is widely considered the greatest watch manufacturer in the world. Family-owned since 1851, Patek creates some of the most complicated and valuable timepieces ever made. The Nautilus and Calatrava are grail watches for serious collectors, and Patek consistently sets records at auction.

    Patek Philippe history in brief

    Founded
    1839
    Headquarters
    Geneva, Switzerland

Antoine Norbert de Patek and François Czapek began making watches in Geneva in 1839; Adrien Philippe, inventor of keyless winding, joined in 1845. Patek Philippe made the first Swiss wristwatch in 1868 and has produced some of the most complicated watches ever made. Family-owned by the Stern family since 1932, it makes roughly 70,000 watches a year. The Nautilus, designed by Gérald Genta in 1976, is today one of the most demanded watches in the world.

    Signature Patek Philippe models

    • Nautilus — Genta's porthole-inspired sports watch, with extremely limited retail availability.
    • Calatrava — The archetypal round dress watch, in production since 1932.
    • Aquanaut — A more casual sports watch with a 'tropical' composite strap.

Tips for buying a Patek Philippe

    • ▸Patek allocations are built through long-term relationships with authorized retailers.
    • ▸Every Patek comes with a Certificate of Origin; the brand can issue extracts from its archives for older pieces.
    • ▸Complications like the annual calendar are often easier to obtain at retail than steel sports models.

Best for: Collectors at the very top of the market seeking heirloom pieces.
