    About Casio

Casio's G-Shock line, introduced in 1983, redefined what a watch could survive. From the affordable 'CasiOak' GA-2100 to the premium MRG titanium line, G-Shock watches are engineered for extreme conditions. The brand also produces the beloved Edifice and Pro Trek lines, making Casio one of the most versatile watch manufacturers in the world.

    Casio history in brief

    Founded
    1946
    Headquarters
    Tokyo, Japan

Casio began as an electronics company, producing one of the first compact calculators in 1957, and entered watches with the Casiotron in 1974. Engineer Kikuo Ibe's 'triple ten' goal — survive a 10-metre drop, 10 bar of water pressure and a 10-year battery — produced the first G-Shock, the DW-5000C, in 1983. G-Shock has since sold well over 100 million units, and the line now ranges from $50 resin watches to hand-finished titanium MR-G models costing thousands.

    Signature Casio models

    • DW-5600 series — The original square G-Shock design, still in production and still around $50.
    • GA-2100 'CasiOak' — Slim octagonal G-Shock that became a style icon; full-metal versions exist.
    • MR-G — Casio's flagship line with titanium cases and traditional Japanese finishing.

    Tips for buying a Casio

    • ▸Look for 'Multiband 6' or Bluetooth time-sync and Tough Solar for a watch that never needs setting or batteries.
    • ▸Many collaborations are cosmetic — compare the base model before paying a collaboration premium.
    • ▸Buy MR-G and MT-G models from authorized retailers; counterfeits of metal G-Shocks are common.

Best for: Anyone who needs a near-indestructible watch, and collectors who enjoy affordable variety.
