    About Panerai

Panerai was born from supplying precision instruments to the Italian Navy. The Luminor and Submersible collections feature bold, oversized cases with distinctive crown-protecting bridges. Panerai's military DNA and Italian design flair create watches unlike anything else on the market.

    Panerai history in brief

    Founded
    1860
    Headquarters
    Florence (origin) and Neuchâtel, Switzerland

Giovanni Panerai opened a watch shop in Florence in 1860, and the company later supplied precision instruments to the Italian Navy. In the 1930s it developed the Radiomir, a luminous dive watch for navy frogmen, followed by the Luminor with its patented crown-protecting bridge. Panerai became a commercial brand in 1993 and joined Richemont in 1997; its oversized cushion cases helped drive the large-watch trend of the 2000s.

    Signature Panerai models

    • Luminor — The cushion case with the lever-locking crown guard.
    • Radiomir — The original 1930s design with wire lugs.
    • Submersible — The professional dive line with a rotating bezel.
