    About Nomos

Nomos Glashütte brings Bauhaus-inspired minimalism to German watchmaking. With in-house movements and clean, functional design, Nomos offers an alternative to the Swiss establishment. The Tangente and Club lines are modern classics that appeal to design-conscious collectors.

    Nomos history in brief

    Founded
    1990
    Headquarters
    Glashütte, Germany

Roland Schwertner founded Nomos Glashütte shortly after German reunification in 1990, reviving watchmaking in Saxony's historic watch town. Its Bauhaus-inspired designs — thin cases, clean dials and distinctive colours — became widely recognised. Nomos produces its own movements, including the DUW 3001 and its own escapement ('swing system'), which is rare for a brand at its price.

    Signature Nomos models

    • Tangente — The original Bauhaus design, with a slim manual-wind movement.
    • Club — A sportier, more casual collection with strong water resistance.
    • Orion — A dress watch with a domed dial and gold indices.

    Tips for buying a Nomos

    • ▸Manual-wind models are thinner and cheaper than automatics — consider whether you mind winding.
    • ▸Nomos is sometimes discounted by retailers outside Germany.
    • ▸Check the movement: newer DUW calibres offer better finishing and power reserve.

Best for: Design-led buyers who want genuine German in-house watchmaking.
